Funky Dragon is proud to announce that we have been adopted by Rhodri Meilir who has agreed to become our ambassador to the world. Rhodri stars as Welsh lodger Alfie Butts in “My Family”, currently the most popular sitcom in Britain and was delighted to be asked.

It’s an honour. The work that everybody involved with Funky Dragon does, is fantastic and on a more selfish note, as I don’t live in Wales anymore, it’s nice to be involved with something good back home”.

Funky Dragon is the Children and Young People’s Assembly for Wales. Last year we delivered two reports to the United Nations and are currently working with schools to deliver PSE lessons.

Rhodri took time out of his busy schedule, the day before appearing on S4C youth magazine program Uned 5, to come in and record a few messages for our website. He revamped our mission statement, did a short interview and even did a voiceover for the DVD of our most recent AGM. All of these can be seen on our website at: http://www.funkydragon.org/en/fe/page.asp?n1=2

Rhodri was keen to stress the importance of the work of Funky Dragon.

“I think it’s very important for young people to be involved in decision making because more often than not, they are decisions that affect them. We are all individuals and we are all equal as well, no matter how old we are”.

Funky Dragon is run by and for young people. The relationship it has with the government means that young people can talk directly to ministers and officials about any issues they have.

It has a unique set up with a direct route into the heart of government. Funky Dragon is the sharp end of a very large wedge made up of local forums, school councils and independent organisations. All of these feed their views into Funky Dragon - via the 100 strong grand council - who are the youth equivalent of the adult AMs. For a bit of fun we asked Rhodri what he would do if he was in charge of Wales.

“I’d have a great big pot of cash and I’d buy a house for everyone in Wales and then try and eradicate poverty, then give the rest to the Football Association of Wales”.
